Three from SEAS win MRS Graduate Student Awards

Three graduate students with research affiliations at the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) were honored with Gold/Silver Materials Research Society (MRS) Graduate Student Awards at the Fall 2009 Meeting, held November 30 - December 4 in Boston.

• Xiaoying Liu, "Oxidation of Ethanol Promoted by Gold Nanoparticles: Reactivity Control and Mechanistic Studies" (Friend Lab)
• Tzahi Cohen-Karni, "Nanowire Transistor Arrays for Subcellular-Scale Nanoelectronic and Cell Interfaces" (Lieber Lab)
• Charbel Madi, "Linear Stability and Instability Patterns in Ion-sputtered Silicon" (Aziz Lab)

MRS Graduate Student Awards are intended to honor and encourage graduate students whose academic achievements and current materials research display a high level of excellence and distinction. MRS seeks to recognize students of exceptional ability who show promise for significant future achievement in materials research.

Gold and Silver Graduate Student Awards, along with the Von Hippel, Turnbull Lecturer and MRS Medal Awards, were presented during the Award Presentations at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 2, 2009.

All finalists will receive a complimentary meeting registration and a one-year MRS student membership commencing January 1, 2010. The award prizes will consist of $400 and a presentation plaque for the Gold Awards and $200 and a certificate for the Silver Awards.
