Why computer science?
“Technology is always on the cutting edge of social change. Computer science gives you power, used for good or evil. So I use programming classes to impact society positively, especially in traditionally underserved parts of the world.”
Favorite project?
“I work for a non-profit called InSTEDD. Technology built by our company created a hotline in Cambodia where people can inquire about communicable diseases. I traveled to the country over winter break and I am helping create dashboards for the Ministry of Health to track both disease trends and public engagement.”
Life goals?
“I'm debating between academia—the emerging field of computational sustainability—or going into the world of nonprofits/social entrepreneurship. Or maybe I'll end up as a data scientist for the United Nations.”
