Research and Internship Opportunities

Opportunities for undergraduates to conduct research in applied sciences, engineering, physics, and related fields abound at Harvard. As part of your coursework, or perhaps as part of individual research opportunities working with professors, you will have the chance to take part in some extraordinary projects covering topics on energy technology (including batteries and novel energy materials), electrochemical conversion of the chemical industry to sustainable manufacturing (including green ammonia for fertilizer and sustainable transportation fuel), sustainable computing and datacenters (hardware and software), electric grid and energy market optimization (including with AI and agentic AI), and environmental engineering (including toxicology and health).

There are also opportunities for summer internships, for example in companies and startups on sustainable energy and climate technology. 

Our dedicated undergraduate research facilities and Active Learning Labs also provide opportunities for students to engage in hands-on learning. We encourage undergraduates from all relevant concentrations to tackle projects during the academic year and/or over the summer.
