The Design and Fabrication Service Center is available as a contracted resource for projects at any stage—from initial planning and development to those already in progress. Our engineers offer extensive expertise across all phases of the design and fabrication process, ensuring a smooth and efficient experience from start to finish.

Our clients include departments across the Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences, including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Geology, as well as Harvard Libraries, Museums, the Law School, Medical School, and the School of Public Health. We also collaborate with external institutions, including other universities and national research laboratories. Recent partnerships include projects with Michigan State University and the Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics on the Magellan 2 Project.

The rate for Internal Clients is $130.00 per hour plus the cost of materials. Internal clients include Harvard professors, faculty, researchers, graduate students, or post-doctoral members who have access to an associated 33-digit billing code. Please note that the amount quoted is only an estimate. The final total cost of a project will be determined by actual time and materials used and billed accordingly. If you have questions regarding billing or finance, please contact your school or department's financial office.

The rate for External Clients is $155.00 per hour plus the cost of materials. External customers are most often individuals or groups affiliated with other schools, universities, or private non-profit entities. Please note that external clients will not be billed for any amount over the original quote without prior consent. For an additional fee, expedited service is available on a case-by-case basis and should be discussed prior to the start of a project.
