How to Declare

Declaring a concentration is an exciting time for undergraduates! Students intending to declare an engineering concentration with an emphasis in mechanical engineering should follow the steps below. Please plan to contact the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies (ADUS) early to avoid the rush!

1. Review the concentration requirements in the Harvard College Handbook for Students
2. Draft your eight-semester plan on the Plan of Study form. Download the form for your degree and fill in all eight terms. Page 2 lists the approved courses and prerequisites for every requirement, so you do not need another document open alongside it. If you would like a head start, the Plan of Study generator builds a draft plan from your math placement and course selections that you can bring to your appointment.

3. Submit your Declaration of Concentration request on my.harvard (instructions can be found in the my.harvard FAQ)
4. Meet with the Assistant Director or Director of Undergraduate Studies for Mechanical Engineering. During the meeting, you'll discuss your proposed plan of study, and once it is in order, the ADUS or DUS will sign your Plan of Study form.

5. After the form has been signed, the ADUS or DUS will use the my.harvard tool to officially accept your concentration declaration and upload a scanned copy of your plan to the "Reports and Documents" section
6. Celebrate!
