Creating Biographical Sketch & Current and Pending Support

Pre-Award team RPMs can assist with drafting Biosketchs and Other Support documents for review, but it is the covered individual’s responsibility to review, finalize, and certify these documents.

Senior/Key Personnel listed on most Federal proposal submissions must complete and submit the following documents:

  1. Biographical Sketch
  2. Current and Pending (Other) Support

All of these documents must be prepared in compliant format using SciENcv (Science Experts Network Curriculum Vitae), which is the official NSF/NIH tool for creating and maintaining these documents.

Step 1 – Create or Access a SciENcv Account

  1. Go to https: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sciencv/
  2. Click the blue “Log in” button in the top-right corner.
  3. You can sign in with any of the following:
    • NSF Account (Research.gov) – for U.S.-based researchers.
    • ORCID iD – recommended for international collaborators.
    • Login.gov or eRA Commons – alternate U.S. federal options.

If You Don’t Have Any of These Accounts, you’ll need to create one of the following to access SciENcv:

Option 1 – Create an ORCID iD (recommended for international participants)

  • Go to https: https://orcid.org/register
  • Complete the short registration form.
  • Once registered, return to SciENcv and sign in using your new ORCID credentials.

Option 2 – Create a Login.gov account

Option 3 – Create an NSF Account (for U.S.-based personnel)

Once logged into SciENcv, you may link your ORCID iD to automatically import professional information (education, employment, publications).

Step 2 – Create the Required NSF Documents (Biographical Sketch or Current and Pending Support)

  • From your SciENcv dashboard (bottom right-hand corner), select “Click here to create a new CV”
  • Click “+ New Document”
  • Choose one of the NSF templates:
    • NSF Biographical Sketch, or
    • NSF Current and Pending (Other) Support.
  • Select your Data Source. For both the CV & Current and Pending Support, this could be an external link, use of existing document, or start a blank document.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts to complete each section.
  • When finished completing the document:
    • Click “Download PDF” and certify the the information is accurate and complete.
    • The document will download as an NSF-compliant PDF
