About Us

Mission

The Office for Belonging, Engagement, and Community (OBEC) at SEAS is dedicated to cultivating an inclusive and dynamic academic environment by promoting a culture of pluralism and a sense of belonging. Through community-building initiatives, educational programs, and strategic partnerships, we support the people and practices that drive SEAS forward, broadening participation, nurturing talent, and advancing our School’s mission to innovate, educate, and serve society. This work will not only benefit our community but also strengthen our science and engineering.

SEAS uses the following working definitions of pluralism and belonging:

  • Pluralism is the active engagement with different perspectives, values, and identities. It fosters dialogue across differences and encourages learning from one another, seeing our differences not as barriers but as threads that strengthen the fabric of our collective work.

  • Belonging is the experience of fully participating in SEAS’s opportunities to learn, create, discover, and achieve. It includes a shared commitment to our community’s continual improvement and collective well-being.
