Office for Faculty Affairs

Primary activities within the Office for Faculty Affairs include:

Management of all SEAS researcher and faculty appointments and reviews, including promotions, reappointments and extensions
Oversight of searches for faculty and researchers
Coordination of faculty and researcher appointment policies in collaboration with the FAS Office for Faculty Affairs
Orientation of new appointees
General administrative duties as related to ladder faculty, non-ladder faculty, and researchers, including assistance with visa applications and payroll questions

Academic Appointments:

Academic appointments in the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) are guided by policies of both SEAS and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS). FAS guidelines are available in the FAS Appointment and Promotion Handbook.

The Academic Appointments Managers handle all transactional activity for faculty and research appointments, including visas, new appointments, reappointments, early terminations, and any payroll-related changes. They orient new scholars and researchers to the School and advise faculty and researchers on appointment and employment policies, including short-term disability and maternity leave, as well as performance issues and terminations.

The Assistant Dean manages ladder and non-ladder faculty searches and reviews, leaves, mentoring, advises on procedural and policy matters, and oversees appointment processes for all researchers. She supervises the Faculty Affairs staff and also serves as the SEAS liaison to the FAS Office for Faculty Affairs.
