Associate

Description and Eligibility

This appointment allows for an unpaid affiliation within SEAS. It is designed for an individual whose credentials and interests align with a specific institutional objective, and it permits the appointee to participate in certain activities of the unit conferring the appointment. The associate appointment is not appropriate for an individual who is performing any services for the SEAS or the University, nor is it appropriate for the appointment to be used to pay an individual.

  • May be renewed on an annual basis, subject to review
  • Not considered Harvard employees - therefore ineligible for Harvard employee benefits
  • Three month minimum appointment
  • SEAS does not provide Visa sponsorship for Associates

Appointment Checklist (for Administrators)

For new appointments of associates, the following information should be provided to the relevant Academic Appointments Manager:

Associates will be required to sign a Visitor Participation Agreement and the Acknowledgement of Risk and Release before their appointment can begin.
